Bem-vindos ao Rio
If you're flying in from the US, you've just crossed the equator and landed in the Southern Hemisphere, where June is winter and winter means 25 °C (77 °F) by the beach. As the plane comes in, look out the window: Sugarloaf, Christ the Redeemer and the curve of the bay are the best welcome we could ask for.
There's nothing to do today but arrive. Travel is long, and the week is full, so we want you rested and happy before we celebrate together tonight.
Did you know?
- 'Carioca' is what people from Rio call themselves. The word comes from the Tupi language and is often translated as 'white man's house'.
- Rio was Brazil's capital until 1960, when the government moved to BrasÃlia.
