Why we begin with a sunset

Every great night in Rio begins on the sand as the sun goes down, and we can't imagine a better way to welcome you, on Bethany's 35th birthday no less. We wanted the first evening to feel like Rio at its most joyful: bright colors, bare feet, something on the grill and a pagode circle that doesn't stop.

The colors come from Farm Rio, the brand that bottled that feeling. It began as a small stand at a Rio street market and became a love letter to Brazilian color, prints and tropical flowers, which made it the perfect way to dress our first night together.

Did you know?

  • Pagode was born in the late 1970s at backyard samba gatherings in Rio, where friends played around a table with a cavaquinho, a pandeiro and a tan-tan drum.
  • Farm Rio was founded in 1997 by Kátia Barros and Marcello Bastos, starting from a stand at a Rio street market.
  • At Arpoador, the rocky point between Ipanema and Copacabana, crowds gather to watch the sun go down, and on a clear evening they often break into applause.
